Ballad for a  Rose

by felvz

I came upon a fine garden one day.

I walked inside to see if there’s a place to stay

just to spend time and kill some idle moments.

I was lucky

there was space for me.

I looked around for wonderful things to see.

I walked amidst the bushes, trees, and shrubs,

then I came upon this magnificent rose.

Hw red and dazzling it was.

It greeted me with a fervent smile

with its beaming, blooming, red petals.

I couldn’t help but smile back.

The flower left me in awe…

it was pretty beyond all that I saw.

I said to myself

“Oh how i would like to take you home…

nothing else in this garden

but you alone…

put you in a vase

and call you my own.”

I stared, and stared, and stared

as I sat before the rose.

But time flies.

Andd like lightning it goes.

I soon had to leave the garden

for i’m needed somewhere else.

“You’d still be here tomorrow, I suppose.

I’ll be back ‘til then to watch you pose…

goodbye for now my lovely rose.”

The flower since then I could never forget.

It haunted me throughout the night.

I couldn’t wait to go back to the garden

and behold of its comely sight…

And so the sleepless night passed,

my waiting finally ended.

Sunbeams signaled a new day,

thoughts all suspended.

I arose from my bed.

I fixed myself and went ahead

to the garden so green

where the radiant rose I have seen.

I entered.

I hurried to the place,

to that little spot

where the rose with all its grace

bewildered my puny little heart.

I found it.

There it was.

It gleamed gloriously as ever.

Right then I knew I would forget it never.

I stared, and stared, and stared

as i sat before the rose.

Oh how I wished and prayed

that nobody else knows

of the little beauty I found in the garden.

For losing my lovely rose

I would not want to happen.

And I thought to myself

“I have to take it home,

nothing else in the garden but it alone,

put it in a vase and call it my own.”

I was about to pluck the beauty

to take it home with me.

But I paused

when from nowhere came a bee.

Oh how the rose glowed with joy

when the bee it did see.

The bee hovered,

danced, and shuffled

over the rose.

And the lovely flower watched in delight

as the bee fluttered with all its might.

It landed upon the blossom’s face

as if giving it a warm, tender embrace.

It smothered my rose with kisses

as if the flower it really misses

so much…

A tear rolled down my cheek

I felt suddenly meek,

hushed by the scene.

It was something I knew not

or something I just forgot

to consider

My heart went asunder.

the rose and the bee…

they belong together.
